Silvestre Bello III, Labor Secretary said the department would take the necessary measures and coordinate with the Department of Justice. This department oversees the bureau.
The statement had to be made by Bello issued as the lawmakers have been pressurizing the government for cracking down on the illegal foreign workers. Their number is increasing at an alarming rate and this can be a grave manner of concern in the coming times due to the rise in abuse and illegal immigration. National security gets the topmost priority and the government will not compromise on it any cost.
Reports ensuring the issue of unknown employment permits forced the Govt to take necessary Actions-
According to the recent survey, the Bureau of Immigration has issued 200,000, employment permits to Chinese nationals. Also, the DOLE has issued 160,000 unknown employment permits. Such reports have forced the government to take necessary action.
As a matter of fact, the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (under the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority are also issuing working visas to foreigners.
Role Played by SWPs and DOLE
SWPs: A foreign worker gets a chance to work in the country for three months. Later on, he or she is also allowed to apply for an extension of three months.
DOLE: This is for all those foreign workers like singers or artists who visit the country for short durations (a two- to three-day performance).
But lately, DOLE has reported that there are agencies issuing SWPs to foreigners to work as construction workers and sales personnel.
