Parent And Grand Parent Super Visa: Eligibility, How To Apply, Extension & More

Parent and grandparent super visa is a long-term provision that offers multiple entries to grandparents as well as parents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents. It is a temporary resident permit through which grandparents and parents can stay for around two years per visit in the country. This super visa has a validity of 10 years. A parent or grandparent can also visit a Canadian citizen or permanent resident on a regular multiple-entry visa which is also valid for 10 years.  But in this case, you are allowed to stay only for six months per visit.

Eligibility For Parent And Grandparent Super Visa

Admissibility is the first criteria to become eligible for a super visa. Several factors can make you inadmissible. These include:

• Security reasons such as espionage, terrorism/violence, subversion, or involvement with any of the related organizations.
• Violation of human or international rights by conducting war crimes, or crimes against humanity or a senior government official engaging in gross activities
• Committing serious crimes including driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
• Being a part of organized crime including money laundering or smuggling
• Having medical conditions that can endanger public health or safety or pose excessive demand on social or health services
• Financially unwilling/incapable of supporting yourself or family members
• Already having an inadmissible member in the family
• Misrepresentation including providing or withholding information that might affect the decision made through IRPA

Some of the things that you will require for a super visa include:

• Letter of financial support from grandchild or child in Canada who fulfills the criteria of the minimum required income
• Proof of Canadian medical insurance meeting the basic requirements with at least a cover of 1 year

Applying For Parent And Grandparent Super Visa

Apart from your biometrics and photographs before applying for a super visa, you will also need:

1. Letter Of Invitation

• A letter of invitation from your grandchild or child who is already a permanent resident or Canadian citizen
• This letter should promise financial support during the span of your visit, and reveal the number of people in the house
• A copy of your child or grandchild’s permanent resident document or Canadian citizenship

2. Income Proof Of Grandchild or Child

The income proof of grandchild or child that establishes that he is financially able to meet the requirements of his household should be submitted.  It should include:

• Employment Insurance stubs
• Bank statement
• Most recent T4/T1 or Notice of Assessment (NOA)
• Letter of employment that clearly states hiring date

3. Medical Insurance Payment Proof

• For the super visa, you will need to produce proof of paying medical insurance to a Canadian insurance company that has a validity of a minimum of 1 year from the entry date and offers a minimum coverage of $100,000.
• A document that confirms passing immigration medical exam is must

In the case the parents and grandparents want to extend their stay they can apply for a visitor record. If they want to live permanently in Canada they should apply for a permanent resident visa after entering the country.
