The International Experience Canada (IEC) program has started the application process for 2023. Last year it was declared that the intake for IEC will be expanded to approximately 90,000 applicants. In this program, interested individuals from the partnered countries will have the opportunity to experience the Canadian workspace in 2023. This program has partnered up with 36 countries from where applicants of various age groups will be provided with a work permit to gain international exposure in the country.
IRCC to welcome youth to gain work experience in Canada
The expansion in the intake numbers by IRCC will be a great help in tackling the labor shortage crisis in Canada. Depending on the nationality of the applicant, they can belong to any of the following age groups: 18-29, 18-30, or, 18-35. Moreover, the nation has to be in partnership with Canada under the bilateral Youth Mobility Agreements. Under the Working Holiday category, the individual will be issued an Open Work Permit which they can work under any employer in Canada for up to two years.

On the other hand, under the Young Professionals stream, one must have a job offer that will grant them an employer-specific work permit. In the International Co-op Internship stream, someone who is already enrolled in a post-secondary program in the country of their citizenship will be allowed to intern for a Canadian company. To start the process, the interested candidates must submit an expression of interest or candidacy profile to the IEC. After the selection, the selected candidates will be requested to apply for a Canadian work permit.
