Canada will be welcoming Internationally Educated Healthcare Professionals (IEHPs) to gain valuable work experience in Canada. On December 5th, 2022, Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship of Canada declared a call for project proposals to help foreign healthcare workers work in the healthcare sector of the country. This announcement was made on behalf of Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development, and Disability Inclusion.
This call for proposals is to help the IEHPs gain targeted work experience in the local environment, hence making them eligible to practice their profession in Canada. Therefore, this initiative will be managed by the Foreign Credential Recognition Program (FCRP) which takes care of the programs that help in the credential recognition of foreigners in Canada. The proposals will be accepted till Jan 30th, 2023.

Any proposed project must help in tackling the issues that hinder the credential recognition of IEHPs. Moreover, the project should be diverse in providing opportunities for field-specific local work experience. According to the announcement, $90 million will be invested in this program for the selected projects. These projects will also have to ensure the IEHPs get a support system including travel costs and childcare. This call for new projects is one of many initiatives by the Canadian government to tackle the labor shortage that the country is going through.
