Good News: Herouxville Finally Welcomes Immigrants!
The time has come for the immigrants to cherish as one of the most conservative towns in Canada, Herouxville has amended its laws to welcome immigrants.
The late 2021 Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) data records Canada as having the most significant labor shortages in comparison to other Western countries. This has been worsened by an unusual rate of retirements, which is especially true for rural Quebec.
Herouxville’s earlier resistance to accepting immigrants was its concern for the French-speaking Quebec people. However, in recent times the circumstances have changed as it now requires more families to take up jobs, fill up vacancies in schools, and prevent the population from fading away.
Another reason for the changes is the effect of the shortage of both cheap as well as skilled workers alongside the issue of retirement of aged people in sectors like hospitality, transportation, manufacturing, and so on.
Recent data shows that there has been an increase in foreign-born residents. The data is 14.6% of its total 8.3 million residents. However, the census statistics show that 28.7% of its recent immigrants speak French. So, the much-awaited Herouxville welcomes immigrants, mostly French-speaking to control the shortage.
