Ontario To Tackle Labour Shortage by Doubling Skilled Immigrants
If you are thinking of settling in Canada after surviving the economic setback amidst the pandemic, now is the time. Ontario is asking the Canadian government to allow them to increase the number of skilled immigrants in the province.
The pandemic has only escalated the problem of labor shortage Canada was facing even before the pandemic hit the country. Whereas Ontario provides the most immigrant workforce among all provinces, it has also witnessed a huge surge in job vacancies. Ontario has seen around 1 lakh new job vacancies in the last year.
Discussions in 30 Seconds hideTo solve this lack of labor force, Labour Minister Monte McNaughton has proposed to increase the number of allowed immigrants. He says that the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program should increase the number from 9,000 to 18,000 per year.
What are the Job Requirements- for faster Job settlement in Canada?
The good news is that to settle in Canada under this proposed program you need not be highly qualified.
Under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program, international students and workers may appeal to the Ontario government. Then, the government nominates them for permanent residency in the province. However, the Federal Government makes the final selection of immigrants.
Usually, the government selects foreign people who are highly educated or highly skilled in their own fields. Not only does it reduce the number of immigrants in the province, but also generates tension due to overqualified workers.
Over Qualification of available workforce, Temporary or Seasonal Jobs
On the other hand, essential industries such as food services are depending on a temporary labor force. It not only lacks security but also obstructs the growth of such industries. The industries have to face problems arising from over qualification and lack of sustainability. Thus, the labor minister seeks to attain more control over the selection procedures of the immigrant applicants.
Rather than focusing on highly operative foreign workers, the minister wants to encourage permanent residency of people with appropriate skills. Moreover, with training facilities and benefits, Ontario would be able to address its labor demands in the essential sectors.
HealthCare Systems, Food Services, Construction Industries have high demand for workers
The industries in need of an immediate flow of immigrant workers are the healthcare system, food services, manufacturing, and construction. According to a recent survey, there were 38,000 vacant posts in healthcare and 29,000 in the food industry. Moreover, the manufacturing and construction services are also suffering due to the lack of trained workers.
Therefore, by encouraging more immigrants to work and settle in Canada the labor minister aims to fill up these vacancies in the essential sectors. As Canada is working towards a sustainable solution to the labor shortage, this is your chance to live the life you deserve.
