As per the new motion which is now approved by the Members of the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC), the ICCRC is now officially sanctioned to apply to emerge as a new self-regulatory organization, the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants.
With the consent to this new motion, John Burke stated that with the significant permission by their members they are now in the right constitution to transition, administer and expand the professional standards for citizenship and immigration consultants. John Burke, the Chairman of the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council Board of Directors is of the view that they are now ready to assume this “enhanced role”. He also adds that with the help of it, they can now hope to protect the vulnerable countrymen of Canada as well as the immigrants.
The federal legislation designated the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants Act (the “College Act”) in the Spring of 2019. Thus, it was granted the Royal assent. This enabled the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council to continue being the statutory professional self-regulatory body for the Canadian immigration and citizenship consultants.
Hence, as soon as it comes to force, this legislation will grant the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council with member approval, and with it, they can apply to the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship to become the new College.
With this new approval of Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council to be the New College, John Murray, the CEO of Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council is of the opinion that it will now improve their profession. John Murray drew upon the lines of what John Burke said that the ICCRC now “ready” to transition to the new college promptly and without any hassles. He further added that it can now assume its new job role and keep improving the services that the consultants provide in general.
The new College is thus presumed to enjoy increased powers of professional oversight. Moreover, it would also enforce, investigate, strengthen the governance for the citizenship of Canada and the immigration consultants. All of these powers can be exercised abroad and across Canada. Hence, the overall security of Canadians, regulated consultants and newcomers will be greatly improved.
A Brief Understanding of Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council
Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council is a self-regulatory body of Canada. It is responsible for promoting and guarding the public interest by supervising the regulated immigration and citizenship consultants along with the advisors of the international students.
The federal mandate of the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council can be traced back to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and the Citizenship Act. According to this, if a person is interested in offering Canadian citizenship or immigration or representation for a certain amount of fee as well as other considerations, he/she needs to be a member in good terms with Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council. In some cases, a member in favorable terms with a Canadian law society or the Chambre des notaires du Québec is also taken into consideration.
