Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program has more to offer for international students-
Permanent Residency is on the Table
The above-stated programs of entrepreneurship and internship are part of the renewal program of the MPNP and these programs are into discussions for the past one year. From 1998, the year in which the provincial nominee program has been started, the province has inducted 130,000 international students. Out of these nominated international students, the particular number of the students get their ticket for permanent residency.
Entrepreneur Pathway- for the ones who want to invest or start their own business in Manitoba
One of the programs is for the budding entrepreneur who wants to invest in the venture or have the financial aid to start a new one of their own in the province. The prerequisite for this pathway is that the international student has to pursue a program for 2 years in a Manitoba university.
Manitoba government will provide the work permit for the selected international students for the period of 2 years but that work permit will be cancelled once the 2-year program is finished.
Graduate Internship Pathway- for the ones who want to do an internship in their field of study
Another program is Graduate Internship Program for the students who want to do an internship in the field of interest. Prerequisite for this program is that the international student must have done his or her Master’s degree from any of the provincial university for a period of three years.
Students who have done an internship under Mitacs can apply directly- even without any job confirmation in the province
Internship under this program would be a piece of cake for those who have done an internship under an organization called Mitacs which works on a non-profit basis. Mitacs provide a link between the universities internationally and the industries. International students through Mitacs can apply for the industry who come under Mitacs directly that means they can apply without any job confirmation letter from the provincial employer.
The aim of the programs is to make Manitoba competitive
Education minister of Manitoba- Kelvin Goertzen said that in the meeting that these programs will lure the topmost talent from different countries which will help Manitoba in making international links and will make the province innovative. He further added that Manitoba will be added in the race of being competitive in terms of innovation and infrastructure with the induction of such programs into the system.
