Canadian government ended the lottery based family reunification system
Lottery based family reunification potent sponsors file the online application to invite their parents and grandparents to Canada but only few who have better luck than others got the chance to reunite with their families. As per the data since its start from last year merely 10,000 people get the chance to meet with their families from the lot of 95,000 people. From this year onwards it will be based on first come first serve basis. Let’s take a look at what makes the Canadian government ended the lottery based family reunification system.
What triggers the government to take back steps on this system?
This decision is a result of increasing demand of inviting families to Canada and outrage in the people who were sending emails saying this lottery system is cruel and not fair.
To these statements, Ahmed Hussen (immigration minister) responded that they are now focused on bringing the families to live together. Luck system shouldn’t be involved in the case of families living together.
Future plan of the government regarding the reunification of the families-
Minister Hussen spoke on the behalf of government promised to increase this number to double that is 20,500 in the year 2019 and 21,000 in the year 2020 as compared to number 10,000 in 2016 and 17,000 in this particular year. When the program of inviting parents and grandparents started in 2014 then the number is limited to up to 5000.
The procedure of filling is same- now the applications will be chosen on first come first serve basis-
Interested sponsors can fill the form online at the starting of the year to invite their families. The application will be selected on the basis of authenticity and how early the application has been received.
Opposition party welcomed the change but also criticized the intentions
The opposition party critic Jenny Kwan respond welcoming to this change but she also added critically that number than the immigration minister Hussen has mentioned was declared in last November which means by this change the intention of the government is not to increase the number of the parents and grandparents. It is just like increasing the applicants for the same number of positions. She too demanded that this limit of invitation should be abolished completely.
In tune with opposition critic Kwan, Michelle Rempel a conservative immigration critic also criticized the 2017 move and said it was just failure to accept the responsibilities.
Kwan further questioned the backlogs of the applications which lead to the decrease in the number of the applicants from 167,000 to 26,000 in the span of 7 years that is from 2011 to 2018. With she also demanded the abduction of all the quotas in inviting the families to Canada.
What the Liberal government has to say regarding the change?
In their behalf, Ahmed Hussen remarked that we all learn from the mistakes. The lottery system was a better version of the previous system which helps to shun the unfair system. He added saying that previous system too have is out comings like if processing center is near to your postal code then there is fair chance that your application would be accepted.
With this he promised to improve the system and target of completing 20,500 application in the coming year of 2019 will be completed square and fair.
