New Zealand, 29th November: New Zealand Sponsorship Period for Immigrants’ Parents Doubles in a latest move.
Yes. This is right.
So now, immigrants shall have to provide support to their parents financially for ten years if they get approved for settling in New Zealand.
This is the new ruling of New Zealand government. This move is aimed at reduced spending on New Zealand immigration.
“New Zealand Sponsorship Period for Immigrants’ Parents Doubles, say latest New Zealand immigration rules. “
The government wants to cut costs and immigrant numbers. It may be worth mentioned that a freeze on New Zealand parent category was initiated last month.
Who will be affected by new increased sponsorship period?—Well, the new ruling of increased sponsorship period shall affect those who already had been invited to apply and anyone who will apply in the coming times.
Announcing the move, New Zealand immigration minister Michael Woodhouse stated that immigrants’ parents were wanting income support due to no means to support themselves. This is despite sponsorship commitments.
Hence, it was costing tens of millions of dollars years for taxpayers. In addition, health services were also getting burdened.
Nearly 5,500 parents of immigrants come and settle in New Zealand each year. Out of these, nearly 20 percent are Indians while half are Chinese. It may be worth mentioned that a review of New Zealand parent category is underway already. This was informed by Nick Aldous, operational policy manager of Immigration New Zealand.
This change was agreed(to sponsorship period) in 2011, he added. Changes are meant for limiting Parent Category costs to New Zealand community.
New Zealand had increased the points threshold to be fulfilled by immigrants for making an application. Review of New Zealand work visas is also underway, added Mr. Woodhouse.
