As per Canada immigration minister John McCallum, federal provincial talks will be launched for reforming the Express Entry program. It may be worth mentioned that a large number of international students could not gain Canada permanent residency since Express Entry favors foreign skilled workers.
McCallum has expressed his views to do more for attracting foreign students to Canada by granting them Canada permanent residency. This can be done only by reviewing Canada Express Entry program with provincial and territorial counterparts, he added.
International students fertile source of immigrants—For Canada, international students are meant to be the best fertile source of immigrants, the minister maintained. They are educated and speak French or English. And they also know something about Canada as well. Hence, they must be on the priority list of foreigners to be invited into Canada, he affirmed.
After the introduction of Canada Express Entry in January 2015, uncertainty poured over the fate of international students wanting to stay in Canada after finishing their studies here. Prior to this ruling, they enjoyed a clear route to Canada permanent residency.
Conditions for Canada permanent residency for international students—International students wanting to become Canada permanent residents after successful graduation study in Canada post-secondary institute need to reach a number of points. Those having highest points in any month are going to be successful in getting Canada permanent residency.
Making it easier for international students to become Canada permanent residents—this could be done by giving international students who are successful graduates to get specific points for education as well as work experience in Canada.
Global competition requires Canada to offer international students an eased path to get settled in Canada once they successfully graduate from any Canada post-secondary institute.
Many immigrants who are doctors, engineers, and accountants have no option but to wait for years together to get their foreign credentials recognized in Canada, agreed Mr. McCallum. So, a meeting will be held on this issue to discuss best practices for recognition of credentials, he clarified.
