Canada starts acceptance of online applications for eTA—From 1st August this year, Canada will start accepting online applications for electronic travel authorization(eTA) from foreigners wishing to fly to Canada.

Canada online application acceptance for eTA shall begin from 1st August, 2015.

The new measure will be application to most of the air travellers and will include Canada study visa and Canada work permit applicants and those coming from nations not requiring a visa to come to Canada currently.
Submit biographic, other information until 15th March—Prospective travellers shall be required to submit their biometrics information including passport until 15th March, 2016 through CIC’s(Citizenship and Immigration Canada) website for getting pre-screened.
Failure to do so until 15th March, 2016 shall lead to denial of entry when border rules become effective.
New measure to strengthen Canada security—Aim of new Canada travel security rules is to enhance the security of the nation. This will be done by knowing the admissibility of foreigners before their arrival at the border and to know whether there is any security or migration risk regarding their travel to Canada. This was revealed by Canada immigration department.
So, the new eTA shall be ensuring increased data-gathering capacity, increased intelligence, close any loopholes on the lack of information and enforce the visa program.
The best thing is that the enrolment period wants to provide travellers with sufficient time to know about eTA and to get their authorization before it is necessary in March 2016.
eTA application fee—Application fee for eTA is $7. Validity duration of a positive eTA is for five years or when the passport of the traveller gets expired.
Who is exempted from eTA requirement?—Well, it needs to be notable that US citizens, visitors having valid visas, commercial aircrew members, passengers who are in transit through Canada, Royal Family members and French citizens who happen to be residents of Miquelon and St. Pierre are exempted from eTA requirement.
Those arriving on flights that stop in Canada due to some unexpected reasons like unforeseen circumstances or any emergency are also exempted from eTA requirements.
