United States, 26th June: The US is all set to discontinue its immigration policy of family detention soon.
This has been stated by the US DHS(Department of Homeland Security).

As per the details, the US immigration officials want to cut back its policy of long-term detention for families having children who had come to the US unlawfully. Also, it is working to speed up the processing of such cases at US immigration detention centers, affirmed the US Homeland Security Secretary, Jeh Johnson.
Speaking about the issue, Johnson said that the conclusion has been reached that substantial changes are needed in US detention practices pertaining to families having children.
US immigration change will enable fast release of detained immigrant families—Due to a change in the US immigration policy, a large number of women and children in US immigration detention will get an opportunity to be free on bond provided they are able to prove that they are eligible for asylum or any other immigration relief.
So, once any family is able to establish its eligibility for asylum or any other relief under US immigration laws. After all, long term detention of families with children needs to be discontinued and is an inefficient use of US resources, informed Johnson.
The move announced by US DHS Secretary Johnson comes close on the heels of reports of poor conditions, attempted suicides and abuses in three US immigration detention centers.
Detention centers will be used for individuals not having a claim for relief on the basis of their current US laws.
Change in US immigration family detention welcomed—The US advocacy director at Human Rights Watch, Antonio Ginatta, has said the US should never have locked up families for an indefinite period.
Around 88 percent of families in immigration detention reveal having reasonable or credible claims of the fear of getting back to their native nations. This is the first step in getting qualified for asylum in the US.
Ginatta claimed that the new ruling must be the first step of putting an end to family detention for all immigrant families.
