Canada, 13th May: Canadian province Nova Scotia has launched an immigration stream targeted at attracting foreign students.

Nova Scotia’s New Immigration stream for international students—International students will be elated by this latest immigration news. Nova Scotia(a Canadian province) has recently launched a new immigration program for international students.

This was revealed by Nova Scotia Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab. The minister affirmed that Nova Scotia will be nominating candidates through a PNP(Provincial Nominee Program) for the new Canada Express Entry Program. It may be worth mentioned that Canada Express Entry program reduces the wait times to around six months.

The pilot project was required to attract well-qualified foreigners, including foreign students, who were not being selected under Express Entry by Ottawa under other Canada provincial streams, she maintained.

Nova Scotia Immigration stream—a new avenue for Nova Scotia permanent residency—Diab has reiterated that Nova Scotia’s new immigration stream meant for attracting foreign students and other highly-qualified foreigners was a much-needed step. It will help in offering Nova Scotia permanent residency to candidates, she clarified.

It may be worth mentioned that the government can offer nominations to 1,050 immigrants in the year 2015 under its provincial nominee program. Last year, the nominations were restricted to just 700 only.

Nova Scotia immigration stream to help retain skilled workers already in the province—Nova Scotia immigration minister Metlege Diab stated that the province wants the foreign skilled workers already living in Nova Scotia to continue doing so. ‘We want them to stay here in Nova Scotia’, she said.

So, it can be stated that the immigration stream hopes to retain the skilled workers already in Nova Scotia. It will facilitate in filling the annual intake of 1,050 nominations. It was revealed that foreign workers had jobs but still firms could not offer nominations through the federal stream, the minister maintained.

So, the new immigration stream of Nova Scotia will be meant for those having worked in Nova Scotia for a minimum period of one year. The immigration stream will be offering increased certainty to foreign workers since they will be retained by Nova Scotia employers.

Nova Scotia has increased retention rate of 71 percent for immigrants coming and staying in this province.
