London Metropolitan University students receive advice from Immigration Department in UK
UK Border Agency had issues a statement on January 4, 2013 for all the international students informing that they would be informed about the fact if they can continue with their studies at London Metropolitan University or not.
The Background
In the August of 2012, UKBA had decided to revoke the Highly Trusted Status Sponsor status of London Metropolitan University.
Hence forth the decision, LMU was not able to sponsor international students for Tier 4 student visa.
The decision was made after UKBA got the confirmation that the University was inadequately making the international students follow the basic requirements of the country norms.
Amid this, the minimum was to expect the students to be speaking in English, attending classes regularly and a few more. But, the students were not found to be following the same; also the University did not take any measure to sort the problem out.
The Impact of the decision on international students
The students lived in the fear of deporting UK within 60 days if they were not absorbed by any other University for continuing their studies, after the announcement was made.
The decision affected the career of as many as 2,500 international students who faced the fear of being expelled without getting a degree in spite of investing a huge amount of money for getting a higher degree from UK.
The later part of the Story
As a response, London Metropolitan University has lodged a legal case against UKBA. The appeal coming from LMU is to direct UKBA to revoke its decision.
The students were told that there will be efforts made to place them into some University or the other so that they can complete their studies.
In fact, UK Government had set up a “process” to help the genuine students who were about to get penalized for no fault of theirs.
Further announcements coming from UKBA
UKBA had asked the students to reply about their decision on continuing with LMU or shifting to some other University. UKBA had also assured the international students that no decision will be taken till 2013 so that students can get ample time to arrive a conclusion.
International Students have to wait for a letter from UKBA in order to understand further course of action on their career.
