The Honorable Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, Jason Kenney announced today that Rena Dhir has been appointed to a three year term in the Vancouver office of the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB).
The announcement follows the commitment of the Minister on the 28th of November, 2008 to the Canadian Council of Refugees to fill the vacancies on the board with qualified individuals as quickly as possible as a part of the solution to reduce the long wait times before the IRB, which adjudicates refugee claims.
The appointment of Ms. Dhir has been made in accordance with the merit based appointment process of the IRB.
Ms. Dhir is one of the leading figures in the Indo-Canadian Community in Vancouver. Before her appointment in the IRB, Ms. Dhir was Controller for Software Productivity Center (VR1). She has also held the position of Controller for Kaldor Design Group Ltd. and was also the Senior Accountant for MC Forest Products Inc. She acquired her Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia and is also a Certified General Accountant.
Created in the year 1989, the IRB is an independent administrative committee that reports to the Parliament through the Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, currently Jason Kenney. The three divisions of the IRB are the Refugee Protection Division, the Immigration Appeal Division and the Immigration Division. The IRB determines the refugee protection claims made in Canada, hears appeals related to immigration, and conducts admissibility hearings along with detention reviews.
