New Delhi — India’s Sania Mirza slipped one place to be ranked 49th in the singles event according to the latest Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings released Monday.
The 20-year old Indian, who will play this week in Pattaya, Thailand, has made significant progress in her rankings in the New Year, as she broke into the top-50 last week after her second round exit in the year’s first Grand Slam, the Australian Open.
Sania also went down one spot to be at 24 in the doubles charts. Her compatriot Shikha Uberoi dropped two spots to 230th in the singles rankings.
Maria Sharapova held her position at the top of the table followed by Justin Henin and Amelie Mauresmo in the singles list. Australian Open winner Serena Williams is ranked 15th.
Among the men, Leander Paes slipped two places and is ranked 12th in the doubles list while his former partner Mahesh Bhupathi moved up two places to the 27th spot.
