Shimla records coldest October day in 33 years
Shimla — Unusual autumn showers over the weekend have caused the temperature in the Himachal Pradesh capital to plummet to a record low Monday, making it the coldest October day in 33 years, an official said here Tuesday.
Shimla recorded a maximum temperature of 11 degrees Celsius and a minimum of six degrees Monday.
“This is the lowest temperature recorded in October in the last 33 years,” said S.P. Bharadwaj at the Parmar horticulture weather research station here.
On Tuesday the resort town awoke to a chilly morning with a promise of bright sunshine, though.
Normally October is marked by clear blue skies and the temperature here hovers between 19 degrees and 25 degrees. But heavy rains last week set the mercury to decrease as icy winds lashed the town.
The higher reaches in the state have been receiving snowfall while the mid and lower hills have been getting rain and hail.
