Moni Roy: the new Tulsi in Kyonki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi
Kyonki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ took a leap of twenty years in the starting of June. Ekta Kapoor went to a lot of cities to audition for the new generation. She had a tough time searching for the right Tulsi and almost gave up but then she finally found her new Tulsi.
Ekta was looking for a very simple face with no glamour at all. She auditioned hundreds of people and finally found her Tulsi in Moni Roy. Moni is a Bengali student studying in Delhi. She had gone for the auditions just for the heck of it with her friends and she landed up getting the plum part.
Moni did not know much about television at that time and Ekta just hoped that viewer’s accept her as Krishna Tulsi. She was totally raw at that time but after a month, the viewer’s sure have accepted her.
The boy opposite Moni is Pulkit. Ekta got him from Manish Goswami’s show ‘Sixer’. Pulkit had a contract with them and it expired. Yes, I am talking about the very cute Lahshya who plays Ganga’s and Sahil’s son in the serial.
He was the last person to be cast. All the other guys that Ekta auditioned for the role of Lakshya were not suiting her requirements and then she came across Pulkit and signed him instantly.
Ekta Kapoor had a really tough time searching for her new Tulsi. Auditions were held all over the country, pamphlets were distributed, radio interviews were held and Ekta short listed eleven girls. But these eleven girls did not match up with Ekta’s requirements.
And then at last, after a lot of toil and labour, the queen of soaps found her Krishna Tulsi. Moni has a very simple and a deglamorized and that is what Ekta wanted- a simple and a sweet face.
But this doesn’t mean that Smriti Irani won’t be in the show any longer. She has got a new position now. Ekta said that the serial just can’t do without her because she is the pivot around which the serial revolves. Krishna Tulsi will be a mirror image of Tulsi while Smriti Irani will now become Ba.
Every other member of the cast remains. Plans to bump off ‘Ba’ Sudha Shivpuri’s character have been put on holds due to her popularity. Ekta said that she will die but after 35-40 episodes.
Ekta’s first generation of Viranis lasted for only 360 episodes. But the second generation was for about 600 episodes. And now she is hoping that the third generation will last for a 1000 episodes.
