Will Smith signs ‘Seven Pounds’
A multiple Grammy winning hip hop American actor, Will Smith has recently signed for his next project, which is to be a drama called “Seven Pounds” and is in talks with the American film production Company – Columbia Pictures to produce the movie.
The movie, produced by Columbia Pictures along with Escape Artists depicts the love story of a man who unexpectedly falls in love with a woman while attempting to kill himself.
However, no director has so far been assigned, yet, Smith’s partner James Lassiter is set to produce the movie. The script is written by TV veteran Grant Nieporte, whose past credits include “8 Simple Rules,” “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch”.
He was last in theatres with Columbia’s 2005 romantic comedy hit “Hitch.”
Columbia/Escape Artists have teamed up with Smith before, producing his upcoming ‘Pursuit of Happyness’. “Happyness”, steered by Italian director Gabriele Muccino, is scheduled to release in December 2006.
Muccino just declined to do another Smith/Columbia/Escape Artists pic, ‘Tonight He Comes’, a movie about a superhero (Smith) who crash-lands in a small town and falls in love with a local housewife. Due to Muccino’s dropping off, the movie has been pushed back to a 2007 start date
Very soon, Smith will shoot the long-in-development “I Am Legend” for Warner Bros, which is slated for release in July 2007. Helmed by Francis Lawrence, an adaptation of Richard Matheson’s classic sci-fi novel, Smith will face off against a breed of nocturnal mutants.
However, there is no schedule yet for Seven Pounds, but Will Smith has 4 movies coming up including the December release-‘Pursuit of Happyness’.
