New figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics show that the greatest source of migrants for Australia has been the UK.
At present, sixty percent of the Australian population growth is due to immigration, with several thousand people applying for Australian visa to live and work in the country. The main reason for people coming to Australia is its warm climate, wonderful environment and good amount of jobs available in some industry sectors.
The statistics reveal that almost one-fourth of the current Australian population was born outside the country, and that 213,000 of newcomers arrived in the year 2007-08 only. The labor market of Australia has open-handedly welcomed newcomers as it was learned that almost sixty percent of workers were at their peak age of fifteen to thirty-four years.
The results showed that 1.2 million people who were originally from the UK are currently living in Australia, which clearly makes UK the biggest source of immigrants for the country. In addition to Australia, immigrants from countries like New Zealand, India, China and Italy also form a large proportion of immigrants in Australia during 2007-08.
As per the statistics, New South Wales has been the most popular region for newcomers in Australia.
