Michael Adams writes in the Star newspaper that "in naming things that make them proud to be Canadian, more Canadians say multiculturalism than hockey or bilingualism".

He points to the statistics to support this view. Canada has the highest immigration rate in the world and the statistics show that Canadian people are the most likely to believe immigration is good for the country and the economy.

Statistics Canada reports that 84 per cent of immigrants who have been in Canada four years confirm they would take the same decision and apply for a Canadian visa because their overall quality of life has improved. Most immigrants also said they were better off economically as a result of coming to Canada.
