Would Proficiency in English make immigrants more acceptable for jobs?

Visa Officers in Canada require the applicants to prove their proficiency in either English or French. Each applicant is expected to take International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam and Test d’Evaluation  Francais (TEF) exam.

This requirement is meant for making the immigrants integrate with Canadian Society and workforce too.

From July 1, 2012, the PNP applicants seeking for semi and low skilled job will have to undergo a language test mandatorily.

An applicant has to take tests in four areas “listening, speaking, reading and writing” to clear the test and score a minimum of CLB 4 to qualify for Immigration.  A score of CLB 4 indicates that an applicant can speak, comprehend, read and write the basic, simple English.

In fact, for Citizenship and Immigration IELTS results are objectively looked into and are considered to be the most conclusive proof of an individual’s proficiency in English Language.

You may contact a local IELTS centre to take up the test. You can select a convenient date to appear for the exam. After meeting the basic formalities you can sit for the test.

Before taking the test you may undergo a training session which will help you perform better in the test.

The test lasts for 2 hours and 45 minutes. The test will place you into any of the three categories- high level proficiency, Moderate level proficiency or Basic Level proficiency.

Based on the categorization, job is offered to an immigrant.  It is quite evident that an immigrant categorized into the high level of proficiency will get preference over others. This makes the test even more for the immigrant to perform excellently as his future depends on the categorization.
