Diploma mills or degree mills are the usual words used by accredited authorities against such hoax institutes promise you a degree that they promise would be acceptable accross all major companies, without your having to meet certain minimum educational quanlification requirements.

Aspirant immigrnt students need to be careful while selecting universitie to study or while applying for study visa. This is very important step before you leave your home for a new alien countries much away from your home country. Getting admitted into such universities can put your whole study plans in jeopardy and even put you into major harassment. These Diploma mills have no curriculum, faculty or infrastructure worth the name to offer and just thrive on exploiting the dream of immigrants to move to Canada or USA, perceived to be land of opportunities.

These universities offer attarctive commision to the recruitment agents or companies who offer free advise to students and seem to go out of way to help them prepare applications. These universities are probably only option for students with poor academic background who are unable to gain admission in reputed universities.

As the students join these universities and realize their mistake, it is often too late. These universities offer little refund of the fees paid. By the time mistake is realized, onve has to go through the entire admission process wasting precious money and time.

Gaining admission in a good university later on can be very harsassing experience which may lead to loss of money and student may have to miss a semester and to join in next session only.

These diploma mills thrive in all countries which are potential immigration destination as Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States. Though, all these countries have strict laws that seek to curb such fake diploma mills yet these promoters of such universities often bounce back with another one if they are caught and prosecuted.

Thogh lure of moving to these countries is often compelling, it is better to stay away from such universities.

You must keep in mind to be able to distinguish between a true accredited institute and a fake one. First of all you should be aware of that some of such fake institutes are even online and have very interesting sites/ office in various countries that seek to attract you (read trap you).

There are many sites that can guide you / update you about credibility of the universities you may seek to join and even guide you about the employment prospects as you complete the degree from these universities.

University of Manitoba has even better environment for foreign students as their staff and departmental procedures are mostly transparent to every pupil of the institute. Take part in asking basic question about the credibility of the institute and its funding procedure, its campus etc.

Do not hesitate to ask these basic questions. Avoid getting feedback from past students alone as often the old students are lured to attract new ones for certain commission. The students who were once cheated find it easy means to recover part of the damages they had been through.

You should also be aware of tricky admins ad they are part of institutes so they have skill to check your transparency but they are bound to provide info as a part of their duty. Do ask them about the credentials of the institute you are going I and funding procedures

Do not hesitate to learn about those universities which are not recognized and avoid the universities that are not accredited by Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)

Finally online database is mainly a chief source for making a start for foreign studies so do thorough research if you are alone. Only a credible source can provide you that information that you can take safely while selecting a university.
