UK Curbing Post Study-Work Visas: UK immigration not anymore attractive for Student Visa!
by Vinita Amrit - July 11, 2011
Height of Hospitability: With the experiences gained from years of inherent abuse carried out by Indian and non EU students coming into the UK for studying, the Cameron government has sought out ways to curb the menace. Presently, the system allows students to extend their stay in the UK for up to two years after they have completed their courses so that they can pay off whatever dues that maybe pending in their account.

However, since students from the Indian sub continent have been known to have worked around that system and extended their stays to become citizens without any intention of returning to their home countries.
Slowball to Snowball: Although the first phase of restrictions were to be rolled out on July 4, there are more restrictions that will be put in place that could further curb the influx of students that are not self dependant. Also, the new rule states that students should have enough funds to support not just their studies, but also their stay and board for the duration of their courses.
Such was the level of tolerance that even students studying in private colleges were allowed to work when they were pursuing studies. And that humane nature may have been taken for granted by the students from the erstwhile impoverished countries that they originated from.
The Immigration Minister Damian Green said in a statement that the immigration system has not been up to scratch. It has failed not just to control immigration but also to select the brightest and the best while also failing to protect the students who are legitimately present in the country. It was observed that the motive of too many students that cam was not of getting the best education and returning to their country but to live and work here.
Much Anticipated Changes: The changes in Student's tire 4 visa will be effective from July 4th are as follows:
- Work entitlements will be reduced to the effect that only students that have admissions in government aided colleges and universities so that they can work part time during the regular period and full time during vacations.
- Sponsorship of dependants of only those students that are studying in Higher Education Institutions will be allowed for 12 months and government sponsored students for the term of 6 months.
- Institutions will have to confirm that any new courses that are introduced in an academic year are nothing less than an academic progression that the student has learnt from the college or institution in the prior year.
- Highly Trusted Sponsors will have the privilege to sponsor students from Low Risk countries through a process that will be especially streamlined. These are some of the means to an end that should stop choking the government and the tax paying public any further.
