Newcomers welcomed in Canada

Canada, 5th October: New immigrants coming in Toronto received a hearty welcome in their new nation.

Many immigrants relate their success stories to the training and mentorship received during immigrant integration programs by Canada.
The Northwest Scarborough Local Immigration Partnership--One such immigrant program happens to be the Northwest Scarborough Local Immigration Partnership (NWS LIP). This immigrant program has changed lives of many newcomers coming to Canada and helped them integrate successfully in Canada and get jobs in accordance with their skill-sets and education.
One such newcomer who has benefited from NWS LIP in Canada happens to be a registered nurse named Faith Tsao from Hong Kong.
Vital role of immigrant programs in immigrants’ success--On arrival in Canada, Tsao lacked English fluency and she was aware of this. But, when she joined the NWS LIP program and took part in ESL programs, her life was changed altogether, admits Tsao. Among immigrants joining this program included those from China and India.
She applauds the role of such useful immigrant integration programs in Canada that help newcomers get trained for not just getting jobs but also for settling in this new nation.
The role of such programs is to provide guidance and knowledge needed by newcomers about Canada and its way of life and that’s exactly what they seem to be doing and with a fair amount of success, admits Tsao.
However, according to Mani Mahadevi, project manager of NWS LIP, much still needs to be done for the Scarborough communities since around 71 percent of such people are immigrants. Established in 2009, the NWS LIP has already helped many immigrants get settled in Canada.
Mahadevi upholds the significance of immigrant integration programs for newcomers to Canada keeping in view the fact that a large number of new arrivals become cabbies or laborers in factories despite having sound educational qualifications or work experience earned in their respective nations.
No wonder, all this leads to hard times for newcomers, she adds. And this is primarily due to lack of access to immigrant integration programs for newcomers, she maintains. Success of newcomers in Canada is indeed the success of all Canadians, Mahadevi asserts while focusing on the need of more such immigrant programs in Canada.
