Labor and Employment Department warns of Job Scam in Canada

Rosalinda Baldoz, Labor and Employment Secretary informed about the illegal individuals or groups who take a huge amount of money from the job seekers and vanish.

She said the fraudulent people operate through websites and use the logo of Canadian Immigration. They also assure the jobseekers to get them a highly paid job and ask for money in the name of processing fee.

Baldoz affirmed that there are few authorised entities eligible to charge a reasonable fee from job seekers. They are Quebec notaries, Immigration Consultants, Lawyers and paralegals.

She also said, “As recruitment scams proliferate, jobseekers should be watchful and guard themselves too good to be true offers that might lead them to the path of those who have been victimized by scammers.”

There are a few suggestions from the Better Business Bureau-

·         If there is a company offering “work from home” then job seekers should first verify the details of the company by logging on to the website of BBB.

·         It is always safer not to provide any personal or financial information to any agent without being sure about his operations.

·         In case the employers ask for any money right in the beginning then the seeker should act cautiously. Most of the genuine cases are not into taking money rather they provide money after completing the work.

·         Frauds generally promise a lucrative salary even without any previous work experience.

·         In most of the cases the employer would like to check the past records of the incumbent which might not be there in a fraud case.

·         In any genuine case the money is transferred to the account whereas in a fraud case cheques are issued. The so called agent wants to receive a portion of this earned money.

The percentage of unemployment in Canada is about 80%. This high percentage sets in a lot of frustration and desperation in the jobseekers. The illegal consultants lure the unemployed and take advantage of this state.

Especially migrants become a prey to the whole affair as they are more desperate.

According to Better Business Bureau, Connecticut most of the “works from offers” are cheats that suck money from people who can afford it the least.

An individual was indicted by Mississippi Attorney General. He had supposedly collected more than $14,000 from job seekers.

To get a job it is always better to approach a legal and authorized Consultant even in the worst of the phases. Verify the information from Labor and Employment Department.
