The federal government has vowed to control bogus marriages in the nation even as more and more foreigners enter into fake wedlock to enter here easily. The intelligence officials of Canada have begun action in nations including India, China and several other nations to uncover all those involved in immigration abuse.
New tougher plans for Canada marriage visas—As per the available information, the new proposals aimed at restricting fake or bogus marriages as a route for gaining entry into the nation will give several additional powers to the government of Canada. The federal government will be able to order deportation orders for any sponsored spouse found to be guilty of lies for immigrating to Canada.
Canada marriage visa reforms will be introduced by the federal government by the end of this year. It may be noted that several other nations like Australia and the U.S. have already put into effect tougher visa norms to curb marriages of convenience by aspiring immigrants.
Proof of living together for gaining Canada permanent residency—As per the plans by Canada government, the new rules will require all aspiring immigrant couples wanting to get Canada permanent residency to furnish adequate proof of having lived together for a certain specified period of time.
Immigrants hailing from India and China have been increasingly involved in marriages for cash as a route to gain Canada PR (permanent residency), Canada immigration minister Jason Kenney affirmed. Several incidents involving marriages of convenience by aspiring immigrants have been unearthed by immigration officials in the recent past, he added.
Quoting increased use of marriages of convenience, Kenney was quoted saying that pictures of couples were ‘Photoshopped” on the same marriage picture several times and this heightened alert among Canada immigration officials in India.
So, now, Canada will require bigger wedding reception images to make sure the weddings are authentic and not a cat and mouse game, Kenney clarified. This will control the convenient game of getting Canada citizenship by entering into a wedlock, getting a divorce and then providing sponsorship to another foreigner for providing him Canada citizenship, Kenney asserted.
New rules will ensure that anyone who has come to Canada as a spouse will not be allowed to sponsor anyone for a minimum period of five years, Kenney maintained.
