On Wednesday, a key senator said that immigration laws of the US can be overhauled this year itself in spite of a crowded legislative schedule. He said this while he summarized plans of providing the estimated twelve million illegal immigrants a path through which they can acquire US citizenship.

The Los Angles City Council is the latest group to extend its support in favor of the US immigration reform. The Council collectively voted in favor of the reform which will provide illegal immigrants a pathway through which they can acquire citizenship. The reform will also introduce changes related to tightening of border security.

Immigrants are more worried than ever about their future, as applications for work permits are being declined at a rate double than a year ago.

It is learnt that over 760 applications for work-permit have been rejected in April this year, in comparison to 357 in April last year and just 224 in 2006. In addition to this, only 3200 applications were accepted this year, in contrast to 4500 accepted application last year, thus lowering the approval rating to 81 percent this year from 91 percent last year.
